Welcome to IODE City of Lakes Chapter
IODE is a national women's charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and creating a better Canada. Members of our City of Lakes Chapter include women of all ages, from all walks of life, in the City of Greater Sudbury.
You probably know us from our flagship fundraising event: the annual IODE City of Lakes Tour of Homes. Proceeds of this tour support our community service, education support and citizenship programs. Join a century-long tradition of Canadian women giving back to their community and their country. Become a member and start volunteering with us today. Giving Back for More Than a Century![]() In 1900, Margaret Polson Murray of Montreal encouraged the formation of a federation of women to promote patriotism, loyalty and service to others.
The first chapter, Federation of the Daughters of the Empire, was formed in Fredericton, New Brunswick on January 5, 1900. Primary chapters were formed in quick succession across Canada as were junior chapters. In 1901, the Federation was incorporated as Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire and Children of the Junior Branch. IODE was incorporated as a Canadian women's organization by a special act of Parliament in 1917. |
